Course Description English 583: Literatures of Oceania This course will introduce students to contemporary indigenous literatures of Oceania, in a variety of genres and media, and to relevant ways of understanding the Pacific Islands. In particular, we will compare and contrast contemporary texts produced by Kanaka Maoli (indigenous Hawaiians) with those by Maori from Aotearoa/New Zealand and by Pacific Islanders from places such as Tonga, Samoa, Rotuma, Niue, the Cook Islands, and Fiji.
